The Soles are re-inventing socially-conscious and spiritual Rock & Roll. As editor Jack Rabid from The Big Takeover Magazine puts it "I’ve long bemoaned that few current bands say anything about surrounding sociopolitical issues. “[The Broken Ghost EP] Makes old punks say ‘yea!”... We see a world where people are rising up from Wall Street to Egypt and that music hasn't really risen with that to reflect the changing times. This is what the Soles are doing and this is what lead singer Din is most passionate about. On the lead single Broken Ghost off the Broken Ghost (EP), The Soles have even inserted, as an intro, an audio quote of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford lambasting the homeless as "an insult" to his "constituents." This idea of separation between the rich and poor is a political crisis in Toronto and the world. Its also a spiritual crisis. We are one and together here on this planet, and that simple generic spiritual truth is reflected in The Soles new music.

The Soles may be influenced by the politics of Rage Against The Machine and The Clash but we feel the new modern political bands need to incorporate spirituality more fully. If people don't start to incorporate an awareness of oneness into their thoughts, then they will never create political change that reflect our inter-connectivity. Over the past ten years, Din has been involved in protests from First Nations logging blockades in the most northern corners of Ontario Canada to economic protests in New York City. He's organized protests that have called for the release of captives and has even been involved in a one-week long protest that freed Native Chief Bob Lovelace for wrongful imprisonment - for protesting an illegal mine on First Nations Land. The song 'Sky (In The Name Of You)' off The Soles official debut record was written by The Soles after Din spent dats at that protest - it has been played consistently on over 50 radio stations in the US on the undercurrentsradio.org network.

The Soles also recorded Broken Ghost live off the floor, with no click-track and minimal overdubs. They feel that modern Rock & Roll has lost a little of its soul by relying too much on technology. What you hear is a real band playing together in real time. Listen to the band follow a surprise, but intentionally miss-timed drum roll, by drummer Gabe Girrard in 'Illusion' off the Broken Ghost (EP).

If you are looking for the new The Clash, the re-evolution of bands like that - if you wondered what happened to them - look no further. The Soles are for you. Though looking back for inspiration, The Soles are a modern band with a contemporary and forward-looking sound. The band also never fails to please live and is know to perform higher-than-standard performances filled with both high energy songs and subtle, melodic soulful numbers.
