2008 May > Clean Up and Spruce Up

Friends of Greenwood Park, a community-based volunteer group participated in their own community clean up event on April 19. Nearly 200 neighbours showed up for the clean up which included waste collection and removal, recycling, planting of new trees and perennials and the painting of a field house mural. Local jazz band, “The Ambassadors” revved up the crowd with live music and City Councillor Paula Fletcher got her hands dirty and participated in the clean up. Organizers couldn't have been happier with the amazing turn out, weather and results for their first ever event. Since spring 2007, following a widespread petition, Friends of Greenwood Park have been meeting about park issues to develop plans for improvement. Greenwood Park's 15.8 acres include a playground area, a field house, an outdoors pool and arena, a soccer field, two baseball diamonds, and a new off-leash area for dogs.
