Nina's Dog Portrait in Progress
For seven years, local painter Nina Otulakowski has been sitting down to paint pups. While she has been a professional artist for over twenty years, it was her first Australian Shepherd, Sydney who initially inspired her to turn her attention to dogs since she couldn't resist Sydney's expressive and playful gestures. Her current muse is Cisco, a good natured and beautiful blue merle Australian Shepherd who can be found at the beach with Nina most mornings.
We asked Nina, to allow us to follow along with her creative process and she shared with us these photos that led up to the final portrait of Jax and Holland that you see here. Nina likes to sit down with her subjects owners to find out about the things they love about their pets - she then tries to bring those out in her work.
